After working in the trucking business, Jack White decided he wanted to work less and spend more time with his wife Ellie. He talked to a friend in Arizona that convinced him to start his own kettle corn business. Jack drove to Texas to learn how to make this yummy treat, then drove to Wyoming to buy the equipment and then a month later he was selling Kettle popcorn. He started doing local birthday parties and events. No one really knew what kettle popcorn was in Southern California until a reporter from the Santa Maria news press wrote an article about Jack and his wife starting Frontier Kettle Korn. The next day Jack and Ellie had a huge line, and everyone wanted to try their product. To grow their business, they started doing farmers markets in 1996. These days they use about 150 lbs of popcorn and sell out every time. After Ellie passed away Jack continued to operate the business which includes 11 farmers markets in our area and many special events. Jack, now in his 80’s, continues to work but gets help from his crew that includes his son and nephew. You can find Frontier Kettle Korn at all four of our VCCFM Farmers Markets.
